Ant i gone-a play in one blog

One of the joys of gardening is creation.    One of the realities is death.    Choices at all levels of who and what should be killed or controlled.   These simple decisions can make me somber thinking of the Wallace Shawn play, "Aunt Dan and Lemon".    The decisions of a Secretary of State and War.    We wage war on intelligent insects.   Whole communities working together.   Are there ant factions?   An ant family at odds by the appearance of a new uncle ant who alienates the ants who lived there all their lives.   One young ant who is secretly called a bum drone, rebels.   She begins hoarding aphids for a solo attack on the lettuce which she might use to say, cover a few dead siblings, but which?    This time of year there seem to be so many...Scurrying back to get her sister ant she announces by touching antennae that the uncle ant, now king and aunt ants are vacationing together on the peonies and she's been invited.    She is arrested by the news and it puts her on guard.   Ending it all she throws herself in front of a young boy on the fourth of July.
Moral of the story,  screw the ants.   Put mint around your kitchen.
